Description
Between 1970 and 1994, the Society ran a series of Annual Lectures entitled “ The Walter Gratwicke Memorial Lecture”. These lectures were subsequently printed in booklet form and are still available to purchase.
Gratwicke Paper No 13 1982.
This booklet covers the making good of already existing tramcars that form part of the National Tramways Museum collection. Many arrived in a poor state due and have seen further deterioration over time. Tony Bacon was the Museum’s Workshop Superintendent. The story and pictures cover all phases of restoration from finding the trams and recovering them, determining which parts can be salvaged and the work done to replace and rebuild to end up with a working tram. It covers the period from 1959 to 1980.
